You Were Made to Fight

Have you ever wondered why superhero stories take over our culture the way they do? They outsell war movies, westerns, and love stories, and they pull in women and men alike. I don't think it's a marketing accident. I think it's because we were built for exactly that story.

"God created man in his own image" (Genesis 1:27), and Scripture keeps describing that image in warrior terms. "The Lord is a man of war" (Exodus 15:3). "The Lord goes out like a mighty man" (Isaiah 42:13). We don't love watching someone beat an unstoppable enemy for no reason. It stirs something because it echoes what we were designed for.

Joshua Meets the Commander

Before the battle of Jericho, Joshua runs into a stranger with a drawn sword who says he's "the commander of the army of the Lord" (Joshua 5:14). Joshua falls on his face in worship. This isn't a passive, resigned figure. It's a warrior King, and Joshua is being invited into a battle that's already being led from the front.

Authority Passed Down

Revelation shows the risen Christ the same way, riding a white horse, called Faithful and True, making war in righteousness (Revelation 19:11). And Jesus tells his followers, "As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you" (John 20:21). It's the same authority and the same sending, now handed to us.

Where This Series Ends

Looking back over everything we've covered, I don't think the real point is convincing anyone that sin is serious. Most of us already suspected that. What matters more is how it reframes the whole fight. Dealing with what's in the way was never about becoming a better rule follower. It's about stepping back into the identity we were made for: not passive, not powerless, but people carrying real spiritual authority into real spiritual battles.

What's in the way doesn't get cleared by accident, and it doesn't get cleared by trying harder in our own strength. It gets cleared by believers who know who they are, know what's been given to them, and are willing to stand up and use it.
